Our Design Philosophy
- Don't let the website get in the way of the message:
With all the billions of web pages out there, how do you get people to stay at yours?
Design it so that the website doesn't get in the way of the message it's supposed to communicate.
Some of the ways we do this are to focus on the following:
- Fast loading:
Broadband internet is growing, but many people still use modems.
Most designers don't load their glitz-heavy designs over modems, so many never realize how slow they are.
Many visitors won't wait for a site that takes more than a few seconds.
- Cross platform design:
Though most web surfers use Internet Explorer & Windows, many use other browsers and systems (Netscape, Mozilla, Mac, Linux, etc.)
We reconize their needs, and use efficient methods to design sites that look good in nearly all browsers.
- Easy, efficient updates:
Even the best designed website is going to need some changes from time to time.
Using templates and style sheets, we make it easy to update the layout or look of every page on your site by changing one or two files.
(NOTE: By "templates", we don't mean that you'll get a cookie cutter web page that looks like everyone else's--your site template can be customized to fit your company and message).
- Consistency:
A customer should only have to figure out how your site works once.
A big advantage of using templates is that it gives you consistency for free.
For example, when you need to change your menu, you can change one file and update it on every page at once.
You'll never again forget to update one part of your site when another part changes, and each page on your site will work the same way.
In cases where there's good reason to make different parts of you site look or work differently, you can use a different template for each part.
- No horizontal scrolling:
Most web designers have bigger monitors than the average web surfer, and so don't realize their layouts are too wide.
We build pages that do not scroll side to side on 800x600 screens.
Our standard designs support Internet Explorer 4.x and up, Netscape Navigator 6.x and up, Mozilla, and other browsers with reasonably good CSS/DOM support.
We can also build sites to support older browsers, though such take longer, cannot support certain features, and are less efficient to maintain.
