Plugins are small PHP files containing functions that process the RSS feed data in some way.
When loaded, they tell CaRP which data they want to process. When it's time to process that data, CaRP calls their functions, passing them the data from the RSS feed.
The plugin may alter the data or extract additional data from the RSS feed that CaRP wasn't going to use. In any case, it passes the processed data back to CaRP, and CaRP continues to process and display it.
